GTA 6 cleared for Game Awards; Sega yanks Shogun 2 remaster over AI art
GTA 6 has squeaked into eligibility for The Game Awards 2026 by the narrowest of margins, setting up a potential showdown with Clair Obscur: Expedition 33's record-breaking wins haul. The release timing also has consequences for PS Plus: GTA 5 appears set to be removed from the service just before GTA 6 arrives. A former Activision executive is already calling GTA 6 and Call of Duty: MW4 the two biggest games of the year — and Call of Duty itself is reportedly getting a new sub-series after years of alternating between Black Ops and Modern Warfare. One title stepping out of that traffic altogether is the PS5 JRPG-inspired Edge of Memories, which has delayed itself to a quieter window.
Sega has pulled the Total War: Shogun 2 remaster from sale following backlash over AI-upscaled graphics, acknowledging the release fell short of both player and internal expectations, with the original edition restored in its place. A quieter controversy surrounds Big Walk developer House House, which has confirmed it will not bring the game to Xbox in response to a Palestine-led Microsoft boycott.
League of Legends Classic is shutting down after just three months. On Nintendo Switch 2, 007 First Light apparently includes a platform-exclusive feature described as ridiculous, and Hitman: Absolution arrives on the platform October 22. The Witcher 3 Remastered is receiving an update targeting poor image clarity on Xbox Series S, and Humankind 2 has released its first extended in-game footage ahead of launch.
