Muramasa returns, Ultima revives, and a horror legend gets its SNES reimagining
Muramasa: The Demon Blade is coming back. Vanillaware's acclaimed action-RPG is getting a remake titled Muramasa: Revenant Blades, due in 2027, and the coverage rolling in paints it as a serious overhaul — 108 swords, a definitive PC update designed to push players to use all of them, and enough polish that previews are calling it brighter than the original. For a game that built a cult following on its hand-painted art and fluid combat, the remake has real expectations to meet.
Richard Garriott is getting the Ultima rights back from EA, and a new entry in the series is reportedly on the table — significant news for a franchise that shaped the RPG genre and has sat dormant for decades. Hideo Kojima drew attention of a different kind, sharing a native PC port of P.T. — the playable teaser Konami pulled years ago — leaving the modder behind it at a loss for words. Blood Bowl 3 is being folded into a successor, Warhammer Blood Bowl, raising questions about what happens to players' unspent currency in the transition.
Baldur's Gate 3 picked up fishing on console, a small but characteristically eccentric addition from Larian. Old School RuneScape pushed an emergency fix after developers accidentally killed players and deleted billions in-game. Dead of the Brain, a PC-98 cult horror title, is headed to Steam on October 30 with English support for the first time. And Dead of Darkness 2 on PS5 is pitching itself as the answer to a simple question: what if Resident Evil had launched on the SNES?
