BlizzCon 2026: Diablo 5, a new StarCraft, and WoW Forever headline a packed show
BlizzCon 2026 opened with two major announcements that had been rumored for years. Diablo 5 is now official, going post-apocalyptic with more classes than any previous entry — confirmed so far are the Demon Hunter, Monk, and an all-new Plague Knight — alongside procedurally-generated dungeons and a return to Diablo 2-style loot. Diablo 4 is simultaneously coming to Nintendo Switch 2, with early impressions calling it a very impressive port that supports mouse controls. Blizzard also confirmed no further expansions are planned for Diablo 4, though there is said to be room for more storytelling before the sequel arrives.
The other headline from the opening ceremony was a new StarCraft, reimagined as an open-world shooter. The project lead, a former Far Cry veteran, pegged its release at 2030 and called the date one the team feels confident about. Separately, World of Warcraft Forever was unveiled as the game's long-awaited 'Classic Plus' mode, with a beta described as imminent, and a Warcraft 3 Reforged expansion called Forsaken Kingdom quietly launched the same day.
Away from the Blizzard announcements, Overwatch detailed season 5 changes including substantial reworks for Sombra and Roadhog, while a new Omnic hero was teased for later this year. New hero Doctrine also prompted the developers to revisit the game's attack speed buff cap, though they say it hasn't been reached. Persona 4 Revival surfaced a Teddie trailer, Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves confirmed DLC character Kim Kaphwan arrives September 24, and a Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World demo is live now on the eShop.
