GTA 6 gameplay revealed: 80-hour story, massive map, and NPCs that notice everything
Rockstar Games has released its third and final trailer for GTA 6, locking in a release date and accompanying it with a 27-minute extended gameplay look that crashed Twitch under the weight of viewer demand. The footage confirmed the game's map can fit two GTA 5 maps inside it, that GTA 6's main story took one Rockstar developer 80 hours to complete, and that NPCs — boasting over 600,000 animations compared to 55,000 in GTA 5 — will react if you're carrying a weapon in public. A criminal profile system will track the severity of your crimes, echoing the honor system from Red Dead Redemption 2.
Rockstar also addressed what the game won't do: the studio says it is deliberately avoiding satire of specific political figures, current memes, or events like COVID, on the grounds that topical references date quickly. The reveal was enough to push Squadron 42 — the single-player spinoff of Star Citizen — off its current target and into 2027, with the developer citing GTA 6's release as a factor in the decision.
Away from Vice City, Pokémon's official social media account was temporarily compromised and used to promote cryptocurrency. CD Projekt Red quietly raised the price of The Witcher 3 Complete Edition on Steam a month out from the announced remastered release. Nintendo Switch 2 buyers still on the fence have until September 1 before a price hike takes the console above $399.99, and EB Games is opening pre-orders today for the Xbox Series X25.
