Netflix shuts Night School after 'top tier' launch; Halo remake draws fire

Netflix has closed Night School Studio, the developer behind Unhinged, with staff speaking out after what they describe as a top-tier launch. The shutdown is part of a broader retreat — Netflix has now closed two game studios while continuing to insist it sees opportunity in the games space, a position that is growing harder to square with its actions.

The Halo remake is drawing criticism from its own lineage. Halo co-creator Marcus Lehto has called the game's lack of PvP a misstep born of poor planning and inadequate oversight, and the sentiment extends further: the designer credited as the 'father of Master Chief' has also voiced displeasure with the remake's new halos. It is a rough stretch of press for a title still finding its footing. Separately, an original Uncharted designer pushed back on the idea of a remake, calling it a potential cash grab and arguing that Naughty Dog would be better served building a new prequel.

Marvel Tokon sold 485,000 copies in its first week, but an analyst suggests it could have approached one million had the PC port and Steam reviews situation been handled better. Nightdive's System Shock remake, meanwhile, is heading to VR. And the viral Pokemon PC port Gen1Recomp has reached Gold funding support, with the developer clarifying that while AI assisted in development, the project was not simply vibe coded.
